Ultrasound can play a unique role in diagnosing pathology of the diaphragm in children. This presentation will discuss the role of grayscale and M-mode sonography in the assessment of diaphragm motion abnormalities. Ultrasound can also be instrumental in differentiating between diaphragmatic hernia and diaphragmatic eventration, which can direct patient management decisions. This presentation will also utilize a case-based approach to illustrate how to optimize technique and avoid major pitfalls when performing a diaphragm ultrasound in pediatric patients.
