Hands-on Learning Lab: Increase Your Accuracy—Approach to Ultrasound-Guided MSK Injections
Digital Botox Injections
Tuesday, April 9, 2024
4:30pm – 4:45pm
Location: Austin F - 6th Floor
Landmark-based injection of botulinum toxin (botox) carries risk of hand weakness caused by inadvertent injection of intrinsic hand muscles. This presentation will describe an ultrasound guided technique used to deliver botulinum toxin to the common digital arteries of the hand for treatment of Raynaud’s disease. The described technique utilizes a smaller volume of injected fluid than the traditional landmark based approach. Decreased fluid volume and injection under direct visualization likely reduce risk of inadvertent muscle injection and development of intrinsic hand weakness. Additionally the presentation will focus on skills that are transferable to other ultrasound guided procedures.
Learning Objectives:
List indications for digital Botox injection procedures.
Describe helpful tips and tricks to maximize efficiency and success in digital Botox injections.
Describe important pitfalls to avoid procedural complications.
