Just Images: Detailed first-trimester anatomy

This session will instruct on the critical elements of detailed anatomic imaging in the late first trimester, including techniques for optimizing image quality. It will review normal ultrasound findings of first-trimester fetal anatomy, as well as demonstrate anomalies detectable at this stage, thereby expanding potential treatment options for patients.

Learning Objectives:

  • Recognize the importance of following a standardized anatomic imaging protocol, Become familiar with the components of the AIUM Detailed Diagnostic Obstetric Ultrasound Examination between 12+0 and 13+6 weeks, demonstrate proper grayscale image optimization techniques for enhanced resolution in the FTDU, and recognize more first-trimester fetal anatomy.
  • Apply and enhance your imaging skills in the first trimester, distinguish between image artifacts and avoid pitfalls with color Doppler imaging evaluation of the fetal heart and other structures, and demonstrate fetal anatomic anomalies and how these can be identified.
  • Appreciate the benefits and nuances of scanning in this gestational age window, recognize image optimization is indispensable for achieving enhanced diagnostic accuracy, and distinguish an image artifact from fetal anomaly to improve diagnostic accuracy.
