This study delves into the extent of ultrasound service integration in Urgent Care Centers (UCCs) and the factors affecting non-adoption in select centers. Utilizing an 11-question survey, data was collected from 104 UCCs in New York City. Key findings indicate that onlyy 16% of UCCs offer ultrasound services with 21% of these also providing radiology services. Most UCCs perform 1-10 ultrasound exams per week, predominantly cardiac and arterial studies. Notably, "limitations due to corporate policy" emerged as the primary reason for non-adoption.
This research serves as a baseline for understanding ultrasound utilization in UCCs and offers insights into factors influencing its adoption. Future studies may explore initial drivers for offering ultrasound services, engage with corporate leaders, and assess the cose-benefit dynamics of ultrasound in UCCs. Overall, this study underscores the pivotal role of corporate policies in shaping ultrasound service provision in UCCs.
