Are you interested in Musculoskeletal Ultrasound (MSK US)? Are you trying to find out more about how others are using MSK ultrasound in primary and specialized care? If so, come learn about a local community of practice (COP) group that leveraged student organization and funding to more formalize connecting persons with expertise in Musculoskeletal Ultrasound with interested future leaders. Easier accessibility, technological improvements, and reduced costs have all led to an increased use of ultrasound technology in medicine. Successful growth and adoption of ultrasound in the clinical setting requires physicians and practitioners to have a strong educational background and training in its appropriate use. This abstract describes the experience of an ultrasound community of practice and logistics on how to strategically implement academic goals. Major lessons include the use of an organizational planning framework to guide future direction and growth of the community. The hope is that the community of practice education and training model could be utilized and/or adapted by other health systems. The COP academic milestones are described for an MSK US COP interest group that aims to guide and enhance their own ultrasound education offerings for their trainees and learners.
