As POCUS grows in use and familiarity in the primary care setting, we believe that it will be an indispensable tool in the evaluation of soft tissue abnormalities, both for reassurance in the case of benign findings, and for the reduction in time to diagnosis in the case of pathologic findings. This case presents one example of POCUS shaping our approach to care, including earlier diagnosis and avoidance of procedural complications (e.g., bleeding) in the office. Our growing departmental POCUS model of establishing a standing, referral-based POCUS clinic, in addition to other resident and faculty training efforts, can serve as an example to maintain patient care within their clinical home. Increasing POCUS utilization can improve patient access and may have resulted in an even earlier diagnosis in an atypical skin malignancy presentation for our patient.
