Dr. Louis Mazzarelli, M.D., serves as the Director of General and Contrast Ultrasound, the Director of Molecular Imaging, and the Clinical Director of Lung Screening at Lawrence and Memorial and Westerly Hospitals within the Yale New Haven Health system. A graduate of Yale University, he earned a B.A. in Art History, as well as B.S. and M.S. degrees in Biology in 1996. Dr. Mazzarelli completed his medical education at Albert Einstein College of Medicine in 2001 with honors, earning recognition as an Albert Einstein Scholarship winner and graduating with distinction in AOA.
Following an internship at St. Vincent's Hospital in New York, Dr. Mazzarelli pursued his residency in Diagnostic Radiology and a Fellowship in musculoskeletal imaging at Columbia Presbyterian Hospital. In 2020, he founded the Contrast Ultrasound Lab at Lawrence and Memorial Hospital, overseeing its remarkable growth and emerging as a community leader in promoting access to cutting-edge technology, particularly in advanced ultrasound techniques like elastography.
Dr. Mazzarelli's current research focus encompasses multiparametric applications of Contrast-Enhanced Ultrasound (CEUS), with ongoing investigations into the role of CEUS in predicting the histology of indeterminate solid renal masses. Additionally, he is exploring the synergy of artificial intelligence (AI) and CEUS in characterizing thyroid nodules.
