Dr. Laveena Kondagari is a board-certified obstetrician, gynecologist, and a Clinician-Educator, focused on using Ultrasound in gynecological disorders and infertility. She was the founding Director of the Gynecologic Ultrasound Unit at New York City Health & Hospitals (NYCHHC)/ Jacobi from 2016- 2023. She is pursuing a fellowship in Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility (REI) at Albert Einstein College of Medicine – Montefiore Medical Center, Bronx, NY.
Dr. Kondagari graduated from SV Medical College, India in 2006 and completed a Master of Science (Cell & Molecular Biology) from Missouri State University in 2008. She subsequently completed her Obstetrics and Gynecology residency training from SUNY Downstate - Long Island College Hospital, Brooklyn, New York in 2012 including an administrative chief residency from 2011-2012. She has been an attending physician in Obstetrics & Gynecology at NYCHHC/ Jacobi Medical Center since 2013. After further training and developing her expertise in gynecologic ultrasound, she established the first and only American Institute of Ultrasound Medicine (AIUM)-Certified Gynecological Ultrasound Unit in the NYCHHC system, at Jacobi Medical Center in 2016. She remained the Director of the Gynecologic Ultrasound unit until her departure in 2023 to pursue her REI fellowship.
As an educator, Dr. Kondagari has designed and conducted several teaching programs institutionally and directs hands-on workshops on the basics of Gynecological Ultrasound for other Ob-Gyn faculty, Ob-Gyn Residents, medical students, physician assistants, and midwives. She is actively involved in medical student teaching and mentoring. Her clinical interests include innovative gynecological sonographic procedures such as saline-infusion sonography, HyCoSy for tubal patency, removal of polyps and impacted intrauterine devices under ultrasound guidance, along with regular gynecologic ultrasounds.
Dr. Kondagari believes that the era of the gynecologist-surgeon-sonologist is emerging and integrating ultrasound as an essential part of future Ob-Gyn residency training optimizes the clinical management of our complex patients.
