Dr. Mena Ramos is co-founder and co-CEO of Global Ultrasound Institute (GUSI). As a family physician, entrepreneur, health & medtech consultant, she specializes in healthcare innovation that bridges silos through workflow re-engineering with high tech/high touch digital tools that save time, lives and cost. Dr. Ramos is a strong advocate for POCUS adoption across the continuum of care with a particular emphasis in primary care and global health. She co-wrote the original POCUS guidelines for the American Association of Family Practice (AAFP), published on POCUS in the Journal of Family Practice, the textbook Ultrasound for Primary Care, the CAFP journal, and was founding secretary of the AAFP POCUS Member Interest Group. She has taught POCUS workshops at national conferences including STFM, AAFP, ACP, FMEC and WCUME.
She has served on the board of several nonprofit organizations including Cuba Caribe, Women in Medicine, and was founding chair of the POCUS Certification Academy Engagement Committee. Dr. Ramos also plays music professionally as a latin percussionist for the Bay Area based women's salsa band, Agua Pura. Dr. Ramos graduated from medical school at the Latin American School of Medicine in Havana, Cuba, family medicine residency at the Contra Costa Family Medicine Residency, and global health fellowship at UCSF - Contra Costa.
