It seems harder than ever to stay focused these days! But history shows us that distractions have been around for thousands of years. We will talk about similarities between historical and current distractions and the new distractions of multi-tasking and technology that have added challenges to our ability to pay attention. Squirrel! A distraction can cause us to lose 30 minutes to re-focus. During a lecture, it only takes 6 minutes for a mind to wander. But not all distractions are "bad". We can learn to focus on a task where we become undistractable and time flies - this is called the Flow or the Zone - and it is a place of great well-being.
