Safety: Foundational Principles for Ultrasound Education- Bioeffects

The thermal index and mechanical index are the longstanding principles that guide the ultrasound operator in implementing the As Low As Reasonably Achievable principle during ultrasound exams. The American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine publishes guidelines on recommended Mechanical Index and Thermal Index Values. Recent advances in technology and expanding applications necessitate added attention to ultrasound safety. This interactive presentation will review the current AIUM recommended guidelines for ultrasound safety.
