This presentation will review basic details regarding transjugular intrahepatic portal venous stents (TIPS) and discuss the principles of US evaluation of TIPS, emphasizing Doppler features of TIPS dysfunction and pitfalls in interpretation through the review of 10 cases. What are the 7 observations to make on every TIPS evaluation? What velocity parameters have value, and what are the pitfalls in their application? What do we mean by the "jet-effect zone"? You will learn the answers to these questions and how we put it all together when evaluating TIPS function using ultrasound and Doppler.
