Wendy Hanna, MD is currently an Associate Professor of Emergency Medicine at the University of New Mexico (UNM) Hospital in Albuquerque, NM. She is the Academic Emergency Medicine Ultrasound (AEMUS) Fellowship Director and the Emergency Medicine Ultrasound Director. She completed her undergraduate and medical school training in Georgia, at the University of Georgia and Medical College of Georgia, respectively. She completed a residency in Emergency Medicine at the University of Utah. Upon graduation, Dr. Hanna worked as a locums physician, primarily in Springfield, OH. After two-year in the community, she sought an ultrasound fellowship at Washington University in Saint Louis, MO, with a focus in echocardiography, completing the ASCeXAM upon graduation. In 2018 she began her academic career at the University of New Mexico Hosptial (UNMH). Since 2018, Dr. Hanna has developed the first AEMUS fellowship at UNMH, successfully graduating 1 fellow with the anticipated graduation of their second this June. Her work also included development of a resuscitative transesophageal echocardiography course for both the Critical Care and Emergency Medicine departments. Her academic interests include transthoracic and transesophageal echocardiography and teaching point-of-care ultrasound to assist providers in incorporating this skill into their daily clinical practice. Her personal interests include rock climbing and traveling.
