Lawrence D. Platt MD, Clinical Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA and Director of the Center for Fetal Medicine and Women's Ultrasound in Los Angeles, CA. Dr. Platt is an internationally renowned board-certified obstetrician-gynecologist and maternal-fetal medicine specialist. He has served as Chairman of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Cedars-Sinal Medicine Center and Vice Chairman of the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA. Following his time at Cedars-Sinai, he opened a specialized prenatal diagnostic center in Los Angeles where he remains today. His diagnostic center offers a unique learning opportunity and setting for residents/fellows from Cedars-Sinai Medical Center to be able to rotate through where they see a variety of prenatal diagnosis cases and can develop their research. Dr. Platt has been a prolific author with more than 360 peer-reviewed publicatonns, 70 chapters in medical textbooks and numerous textbooks to his credit. As an internationally renowned and nationally sought-after speaker, he has presented lectures on the continual advances that are being made in obstetrics and gynecology ultrasound and prenatal diagnosis. He continues to be a research investigator in many NIH and WHO-funded research projects. Dedicated to giving back to the community, Dr. Platt serves on numerous national and international committees and boards of major professional societies, industry organizatons, educational, non-profit, or religious organizatons. As a recipient of a phethora of honors and accolades throughout his career, being the fourth American to receive the prestigious Ian Donald Gold Medal Award from the International Society of Ultrasound in Obstetrics and Gynecology is the most special -- the highest honor presented to an individual who has made significant scientific contributions to the advancement of diagnostic ultrasound in OB/GYN, and who has changed the way ultrasound is practiced through research and innovation.
